A look into 2015
The year 2015 will be a very exciting one for OBESSU and its Member and Candidate Organisations. At the recent Board meeting in Marseille (France), a draft outline for this year’s activities was made. The outline is of course based on the activities described in OBESSU’s 2015-2017 Workplan, adopted at the General Assembly in Vienna in 2014. Note that the exact dates of many of the events are still to be confirmed.
A few days ago, you could read about the upcoming Study Session. This will take place in Budapest (Hungary) in the end of February and you can follow the developments at #StopXenophobia and #OBESSUStS.
In June, OBESSU will celebrate its 40th birthday. We will celebrate this together with the General Assembly in Brussels, where we will look back at OBESSU’s impressive history and also invite alumni, partner organisations and other friends of OBESSU who can share their stories of what has happened during the last 40 years.
In September we will have the Training Course for International Officers (TCIO) in Brussels. During five days, we will look at the various European institutions which OBESSU works with, meet decision-makers in the field of education and discuss how both OBESSU and its Member and Candidate Organisations can improve their advocacy work. OBESSU had a similar event in 2013 and it was widely appreciated.
Throughout the year, we will have two Working Groups. One of them will be working on updating the Manual for School Students – a publication which is very good (recently translated to Macedonian!) but which is getting a bit outdated. The Working Group will look into how it can be updated for a 2015 reality. The second Working Group will look into the topic of student welfare and coordinate OBESSU’s advocacy, which also includes the 2015 Convention and some research on the topic. Keep your eyes open; the call for members of the two Working Groups will be out soon.
In the fall we will have the Convention on Welfare, Wellbeing and Social Autonomy of School Students. This will take place in Cluj-Napoca in Romania and, in the words of the Workplan, it will “provide space to discuss and compare similarities and differences among the countries of Europe in ensuring access to education and the welfare of young people”. The Working Group on Welfare and the Convention are both done in cooperation with the European Youth Foundation of Council of Europe (EYF).
Apart from these things we will also have a Council of Members, a Monitoring Committee meeting and several Board meetings. And, who knows, maybe also something else which comes up. OBESSU is looking forward to seeing you at these events!
