AKS launched new campaign on School Students Rights

In March Aktion kritischer Schüler_innen (AKS) launched its new campaign called: “Recht du hast!”, which means both “you have the right” and “you are right”. This campaign focuses on the lack of information on school students’ rights in schools. As we see it at the moment, most school students do not even know what kind of rights they have, and when it comes to violation of law nobody knows whom to call for help. AKS has had a “School students’ rights hotline” for many years and we have experienced that these violations of school student rights happen every day in Austrian schools.

In our campaign we demand an institute for school student’s rights which should consist of lawyers in every part of Austria. This should help school students to get support whenever they need it in schools.

Apart from schools of general education we also focus on VET students, especially those who are in apprenticeships, as those VET schools do often have very complex problems with school students’ rights, as they are strongly connected with the employment law.

As a part of our campaign we have even more workshops on school students’ rights in schools and try to inform young people of their rights. Furthermore we talk to stakeholders in education and try to get support for our demand.
