Call for Actions – Social Inclusion in Education

Since October 2013, OBESSU has been conducting a campaign on social inclusion in education titled “Education, we have a problem!”. The campaign aimed at raising awareness of issues linked to social exclusion in secondary education in Europe and focused on five different main areas: cost of education, ranking in education and inclusion of disabled school students, LGBTQ-students and school students with migrant background.
The campaign was widely recognized at the European level and many of the issues OBESSU brought up for discussion are clearly not solved, and it is even more crucial to continue fighting for every school students equal access to quality education. However, as an European platform we always have to bear the different regional realities in mind when discussing social inclusion, something that might block us from doing concrete actions. Here is where we see you, the national school student activists, stepping in!Special Newsletter!
In May, OBESSU will produce a special Newsletter, only dedicated to actions taken to tackle social inclusion in education.We are sure these actions are already being done by you in your work as school student unions, and we would be delighted to have your news in our Newsletter. Have you done a project, a campaign, an event or lobbied for a more inclusive school environment? Have you worked with a disability organisation or an LGBTQ organisation on a common issue? Have you incorporated the OBESSU social inclusion campaign in your work?
Please share an article with OBESSU, 300-700 words, and we will publish it in our Social Inclusion edition of our Newsletter. Deadline to do so is 12th of May. We believe this will be a great way to show NGOs, school students and activists in Europe that a lot of things are being done on social inclusion and inspire everyone to do even more.

“Education, we have a problem!” at the European Youth Event
Have you used the stickers and posters we produced? Have you taken any actions related to social inclusion? Please, send us pictures and we will present then at the closing of the campaign in Strasbourg at the European Youth Event which will take place from 9-11th of May.
