Call for Selection Committee Members 2019

What is the ‘Seeds for Integration’ project about?

In July 2016 OBESSU started implementing long-term project called “Seeds for Integration”. The overall aim of this re-granting scheme is to provide seed-funding to secondary school student unions operating on grass-root, regional or national level, or in case there is no student council in the school to independent groups representing the school’s students, in order to empower them to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational inclusion of refugee and migrant students.

The objectives of the project are:

• To empower school students – regardless to where they come from – to take action in order to enhance the inclusion of their migrant and refugee peers into the school community and the secondary education environment and to raise awareness on a local, regional and national level on the issues migrant and refugee students are facing throughout their integration process.

• To build closer ties and create a dialogue between the school community and the communities migrant and refugee students are coming.

• To further engage and enable OBESSU membership (national school student unions) to increase the dissemination efforts and visibility of Seeds for Integration on a national level and to work towards achieving a political impact with their funded initiatives.

• To foster and support initiatives that are designed and implemented as a joint effort of secondary school students and university students around the topic of the educational inclusion of migrant and refugee students, having a potential impact on national policy-making.

This project has three pillars and the members of selection committee under this call would be working on applications received within all of them:

1. Seed-funding on two scales

This part of the programme is designed around the core idea of providing small and large scale grants to grass- roots groups of school students, regional and national school student unions, so that they have the resources and the capacity to develop targeted local initiatives or projects with a regional or national level impact.

•   For large scale projects we give up to 4000 Euros. This grant is reserved to OBESSU membership (Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations);

•   For small scale projects we give up to 1000 Euros. This grant is awarded to local and regional secondary school student unions or small groups of students linked to either a particular school council or a grass- root community.

2. Dissemination through OBESSU membership

In addition, to the re-granting scheme, to strengthen visibility and outreach of the programme on national level and to ensure higher number of quality initiative proposals from grass-root and regional level, OBESSU Member Organisations (MO) in 3 selected countries per year will be tasked to implement a so-called Inclusion Work Package (IWP) from an overall budget of maximum 7500 euros per MO. Activities within a proposed IWP can include promotion, organisation of project development training, translation of materials etc.

3. Joint partnership

To create synergies and upscale cooperation between secondary school and university students, possibility will be provided to apply for funding in the framework of the “Joint partnership projects”. Initiative has to be submitted by a school student union and university student union and it is co-funded by the European Students’ Union’s project “Together, moving forward”.

What is the Selection Committee?

To ensure that we select a variety of high quality projects in an objective and unbiased way, we would like to involve 4 enthusiastic young people to evaluate the incoming applications, providing us with an even broader understanding of the educational inclusion of young refugees and migrants.

Selection criteria:

•   to be a resident of member state of Council of Europe

•   to be 18-30 years old

•   to have experience with project management

•   to have experience in working with refugees and migrants

•   to have experience with youth organisations

The tasks of the members of the Committee include:

•   to be available to evaluate applications coming on a rolling basis

•   to be available for online communication

•   to be available for an introductory training course

•   to be available for selection work throughout 2019

Application procedure and agenda:

•  Fill in the online application form until 28th December 23.59 CET.

•  After thoroughly reviewing all received applications, OBESSU Board will appoint 4 evaluators for a one-year-long mandate.

•  You will receive the answer to your application by the 4th of January 2019. 

Conditions

The mandate of selection committee will run until the end of 2019.

The work of the Selection Committee members is remunerated by per diem based on the amount of work required in the given period. The per diem value is 50€. We estimate that a full day of work is required to evaluate 3 applications. This can be subject to adjustments based on the communication between the evaluator and the programme coordinator.

The selection committee member will agree with the programme coordinator on how many applications s/he can evaluate in the given period. The exact timing of evaluation moments will be determined by the times when applications will be submitted.
