At OBESSU, we believe that a qualified teacher is not automatically a good one. Across Europe, teacher training remains inconsistent, too focused on subject knowledge, and too often silent on the social, emotional, and pedagogical skills that actually make the difference in the classroom. OBESSU calls on all European governments and EU institutions to transform teacher training and professional development, ensuring that empathy, student participation, and inclusive pedagogy are not optional extras — but the foundation of what it means to teach.
