OBESSU Position Paper “No future without media literacy – No to smartphone bans in schools!”

Banning smartphones from schools is not a solution, it is an avoidance of one. Across Europe, governments are reaching for the easy answer while leaving the harder questions about digital literacy, inequality, and education unanswered. Students need to learn how to navigate the digital world, not be shielded from it. OBESSU calls on all European governments and EU institutions to invest in media literacy education and digital infrastructure, and to reject blanket bans that punish students for the failures of the systems around them.
