OBESSU Policy Paper “Refugee and Migrant Rights in Education: A School Students Perspective”

At OBESSU, we fundamentally believe that the right to education belongs to every young person, regardless of where they were born, what documents they carry, or what language they speak. Across Europe, refugee and migrant students continue to face bureaucratic walls, economic barriers, unrecognised qualifications, and the lasting weight of trauma, with schools often ill-equipped to support them. OBESSU calls on all European governments and EU institutions to dismantle these barriers, to train teachers to work in diverse and multilingual classrooms, and to ensure that refugee and migrant students are genuinely welcomed into our schools.
