EU Education Ministers call for Education and Training to fight youth unemployment
The first meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council of the EU during the Danish Presidency took place on 10th of February. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how education and training can contribute to fighting youth unemployment in the EU.The meeting began with a discussion on the Annual Growth Survey, released by the European Commission in November 2011. The Survey found that youth unemployment remained very high in EU Member States. The Council adopted the Joint Report on the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training. The report includes the future priorities in the field of education and training for 2012-2014. Furthermore, the Council was briefed on the main conclusions of a joint report by Eurydice and Eurostat, entitled: “Key data on education in Europe 2012”.
