GSSUA signs memorandum of cooperation with the Parliament of Georgia
23 December 2013, Tbilisi, Georgia The Georgian School Student Unions’ Alliance (GSSUA), together with other successful civil society organisations, signed the memorandum of cooperation with the Parliament of Georgia on December 12th 2013. For the purpose of consolidating Georgia’s democratic system, the Parliament of Georgia recognises the significance of a dialogue with civil society organisations, such as the GSSUA, and supports their involvement in the implementation of the duties defined by the Constitution and the rules of procedure of the Parliament of Georgia.
Following the content of the agreement Parliament of Georgia acknowledges the role and importance of GSSUA in the formation of a balanced democratic political system and in the protection of school students’ rights. GSSUA received an official recognition by the Parliament of Georgia as a stakeholder representing school students’ voice in Georgia. Future cooperation will include working with the GSSUA on defining the need of monitoring and evaluation work of the School Student Rights Watch and discussing together how school student participation and representation can be improved in Georgia.
GSSUA believes that the memorandum will be productive, though still waiting for a concrete follow-up of the meeting before raising its hopes. Without a proper follow-up it is difficult to ensure that the memorandum will also lead to action. Therefore the GSSUA was proud to see actions taken following the meeting.
GSSUA believes that this event was one of its most important steps toward organisational development.
