ISSU Annual General Meeting
The Irish Second-Level Students’ Union (ISSU) held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 27th of March. The meeting was held in the Department of Education and all schools across Ireland were welcome to attend. Our theme this year was “Bullying” and the discussions were based on how to tackle bullying in our schools.
The day was a great success. Over 90 students attended – which meant they sacrificed a day of their Easter holidays in support of us.
The outgoing National Student Executives (NSE) gave a fantastic review of their work last year. This included matters such as; launching a campaign against and raising awareness about cyber bullying.
A new NSE was successfully elected after an exciting debate. Congratulations to:

Mark had this to say about being elected:
“ I’m honoured to be given the leadership of the ISSU at the most crucial time since its foundation. We are at a stage where we will have to make our organisation financially viable in the long term and there are plans prepared to do so now. I think delegates at our AGM also supported me for my commitment to increase our membership significantly in order to give us the legitimacy to speak for all students in Ireland. I have a strategic growth action plan prepared which shall guide our new leadership in developing the ISSU. I look forward to working with our new executive in giving the ISSU the status of an equal partner in education”.
Our Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn encouraged the union and shared the hope that someday we will be a partner in education.
