LMS Winter forum: Activism inspires to grow!
Just after the New Year, on the 4th of January, about 300 school activists from 23 of Lithuania’s cities, were at the Republic of Lithuanian Presidential house for the opening of the traditional LMS (Lietuvos Moksleiviu Sajunga) event: the 2013 of the Winter Forum! This year topic was “What should a school activist know?”
LMS chose to pursue this activity, oriented in strengthening and improving student councils, since there is often the perception that usually most student councils are merely focusing on general activities – organizing events and other entertaining activities. Most student activists are taking many things for granted and forget one of the most important functions of a student council: to represent school students in the school environment and at the society. So that is why the LMS Winter Forum was oriented at student council work improvement.
Organizers and lecturers drew attention to student council’s work and their members since most of the students who have joined a council become student activists in the future. LMS organized six academic hours of working groups as well as three plenary sessions. All of the lecturers were social activists and public figures such as Marius Ulozas – director of Policy Research and Analysis Institute, Mykolas Majauskas – former counselor of the Prime Minister of Lithuania, and also LMS Alumni Rytis Laurinavicius – director of the company “Soundtest”. At this Winter Forum the OBESSU Board Member Dejan Bojanic also attended, and held workshops about European school students’ representation on European level.
“This traditional LMS Winter Forum is a great chance not only for personal development but also to improve the representation of school students’ and establishing the civic society” – says the President of LMS Vygintas Eidenas.
