Meet Laufey and Rūta, the new OBESSU Board members!
During the last General Assembly, 13th – 14th of June 2015, Laufey María Jóhannsdóttir and Rūta Meškauskaitė were elected as the new Board members of OBESSU. They will represent the platform for the next two years, together with Brendan Power, Giuseppina Tucci and Oona Heiska. To get to know Laufey and Ruta, we have asked them to present themselves.
Laufey María Jóhannsdóttir My name is Laufey María and I am 20 years old. I am from Iceland and currently studying law at the University of Reykjavík. My favorite colour is blue, I am a dog person, I listen to music and read books… mainly, this is what I do in my free time. My involvement in school student activism started almost 5 years ago in the lower secondary level. For three years I sat in the Board of the Upper Secondary School Student Union in Iceland (SÍF), and for the last two years I was the president of the organisation. I have attended many OBESSU events and I am a member of the Working Group concerning Student Welfare. Student welfare and rights have been my main passions for the past years and I am looking forward to working for school students around Europe.
Rūta Meškauskaitė Hey my name is Rūta, I am an 18 year old school graduate from Lithuania. Currently I am planning to continue my studies in the field of politics and international relations. I have been a school student activist for 4 years now and I am still passionate about continuing working in this field. I have started as a member of a student council, and due to active participation and determination, I was invited to contribute to Lithuanian School Students’ Union (LMS) where I was working as the International Officer. I have learned many things in my home organisation and OBESSU showed me the importance of stressing national issues in the international arena as well as learning from the best examples from all over Europe. I am glad that now I can contribute to OBESSU and work towards a better tomorrow for European school students. But surely I am not only that… I am a food lover, traveller, big dreamer and a person which is super excited for the upcoming two years of experiencing, learning and working as an OBESSU Board member.
