Meet our new ESC volunteer – Amira Bakr

Hi everyone! I am Amira, and on April 28th, 2025, I happily joined the OBESSU secretariat as the new Policy and Outreach Assistant under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in International, Intercultural and Advertising Communication and recently completed a Master’s in International Relations and Development Cooperation from the University for Foreigners of Perugia. My previous traineeship at the Italian Permanent Representation to the European Union made me realise firsthand the significant influence organised groups can have on shaping European, national and local decision-making processes. This experience inspired me to apply my skills to support a cause I believe in, like OBESSU’s mission.

Students are among the most important yet underrepresented groups in our societies. Adults may misinterpret youth as inexperienced or lacking interest; however, initiatives like OBESSU prove that young people are actually proactive and engaged if someone is simply willing to listen to them. OBESSU’s ability to bring together student associations from all around Europe and successfully advocate for them at high-level discussions makes me proud and motivated to be joining the Secretariat and contributing to making educational environments more inclusive and student-centred.

Feel free to reach out to me at amira@obessu.org – I’d love to connect!
