Česká středoškolská unie (CSU)
The Czech High School Students Union was founded in 2013. The organisation consists of high school students from more than 100 schools. The Union stands for students rights, represents them, as well as tries to improve the quality of secondary education and to establish a dialogue between local and public authorities and students. The executive body of the Union is the Board. The Board has seven members and is directly elected by the National Assembly, which consists of schools delegates.
The main goal of CSU is to promote and defend the interests and rights of high school students in the Czech Republic.
There are two types of membership. Any high school student can become our member and have passive voting right. The second type is focused on school student councils. They can delegate their representative and by that gain active voting right, so that the delegate fully promotes interests of the students at school.
200 (registered online); 25 school student councils; 10500 students (represented through the student councils).
The main aims are to achieve better representation of students in educational decision making, as well as to promote civic education and develop students‘ skills.

- a guide for a proper creation and maintaining of a student council on schools
- holding debates and round tables with politicians, teachers and education experts alike.
– “Model of School Student Council” (Vzorová samospráva): introduces, methodically describes and supports establishing and functioning of student councils. Using this document, students shall gain an all-embracing overview needed for creating an autonomous body within the school directive scheme, its spread within the students, communication through it with the school management and students themselves. Last but not least, the material also offers useful tips and advice regarding the agenda and the chairing of the democratic body. link 1 link 2
– “No to dubbing” initiative demands more usage of the original production sound and less dubbing on the Czech TV (whereas the aim is to improve the English language skill of Czechs by a more natural approach to the language). This activity was covered by major Czech media such as Mladá fronta DNES or Český Rozhlas. link1
– We also organise round tables in the Chamber of Deputies where students meet the education policy makers and discuss the current issues of education. link 1
