Erhvervsskolernes ElevOrganisation (EEO)
The organisation started in 1996 when students of the vocational schools in Denmark, realised that they needed an organisation to speak for them, on a national level. The organisation was growing slowly and in 2005 a new structure was adopted and EEO started to grow faster and faster. During the demonstrations on the parliament opening day in 2009, EEO also improved its relationship to the other student organisations in Denmark.
All VET schools in Denmark can become a member.
Number of members: 37 school student councils.
EEO’s main aim is to protect the high level of education that technical and vocational students in Denmark receive, and to ensure that the standard is not lowered.
Educational environment, apprenticeship, school based apprenticeships and general image of VET.
- “Praktik eller kaos!” (Internships or chaos) – A large campaign organised in a short time, following catastrophic data showing that almost 6000 students couldn’t get an internship (which mean they had to stop their education). The campaign ended with the Danish Ministry of Education being blocked by thousands of students from all over Denmark;
- “Skolebesøg” (School visits) – Every year EEO visits nearly all technical and vocational schools in Denmark. When visiting the schools, EEO monitors that the law is being implemented, and helps the student council with the problems they may have;
- “Ud af krisen, ind i fremtiden” (Out of the crisis, into the future) – A large campaign organised together with both the primary and upper school students. The goal was to stop financial cuts on the education budget, to ensure a high level of education. The campaign ended with demonstrations in five major cities, and with more than 30.000 students taking part and more than 50 schools being blocked.
