Irish Secondary Students’ Union (ISSU)

Student Councils.

• To develop policies on issues affecting Irish second-level students and represent and rights of Students
• To provide a transparent, democratic and reliable organisation
• To support, and provide training for the development of second-level school Student Councils
• To work closely with educational curriculum policy makers and Education Partners to continually develop a transparent, fair and modern education system
• To work in collaboration with other educational and youth institutions and bodies both in Ireland, and Europe
• And most importantly, to give Students a structured platform through which the voice of the Irish Second-level Students will be heard

• The ISSU provides training for school Student Councils on how to operate effectively, how to be active in the school community etc. We also assist with the establishment of Student Councils in schools, which do not already have a student representative body.
• The ISSU produces Ireland’s only designated second-level student card providing students with proof of age, identification and enabling them to avail of student discounts on a national and international level for the first time.
• The conducts studies on issues of interest and importance to students such as mental health, exam reform etc. including conducting surveys among students, preparing reports to be submitted to government bodies and establishing working groups in order to achieve specific goals in the interest of students.
• The ISSU provides a structured platform to enable second-levels students’ to engage and represent their collective voice, striving for equal partnership in education status.
