New Challanges for VET – Statements from EUNEC
By the end of October last year, Runar from the VET working group attended a EUNEC conference called: “New Skills for New Jobs – New challenges for Vocational Education and Training in the 21st century”. Now the statements from the conference have been published, and they look very promising with OBESSU eyes, and along the way they match OBESSU’s policy paper on vocational Education.The main statements are as following:
– VET is to be viewed as a valuable learning path in itself, and is for students who enjoy learning by doing, and are career driven.
– It is necessary to develop new skills, such as “soft skills” and “career management” and other skills that can help students adapt to new situations over a longer period.
– Students should be encouraged and enabled to experience both VET and academic education before and when choosing their educational path.
– Teachers should also develop their competences throughout their professional career.
– Learning should take place both in school and workplace, so that VET becomes a community project.
EUNEC is the European Network of Educational Councils. It is supposed to be a platform where all major educational reforms and structures can be discussed throughout and prepared for implementation.
