Nothing about us without us!
OBESSU Member and Candidate Organisations empowered OBESSU in the summer of 2012 to start working with the upcoming European Parliament elections in 2014. OBESSU, being the only representative of school students at the European level and uniting 24 Member and Candidate Organisations from 19 countries, has created a Working Group on the topic in order to ensure that school students’ voices are heard in the European Parliament and encourage the new mandate to prioritise education. This is why the Working Group is called “School Students’ Europe 2019”.
Last weekend from the 21st to the 24th of November, the Working Group met for the second time this year to discuss the fast approaching European Parliament elections to be held in May 2014.
The Working Group had the chance to meet three Political Party Youth Organisations (PPYO): Young European Socialists (YES), The Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) and European Liberal Youth (LYMEC). The Working Group presented the OBESSU Policy Paper on European Parliament elections called “School Students’ Europe 2019”, which was voted upon in the OBESSU General Assembly in Haapsalu in August this year. The Policy Paper highlights OBESSU’s three main topics for the elections concerning education – a universal right to education; equality, participation and democracy; and Vocational Education and Training (VET).
