OBESSU at the European Youth Event

OBESSU took part in the European Youth Event (EYE), organised by the European Parliament and the European Youth Forum in Strasbourg on 9-11th May. The event gathered between 5000 and 6000 young Europeans together to discuss and share ideas for a better Europe. Board members, the Secretary General, Working Group EPEP2019 and the task force running the OBESSU campaign on social inclusion attended the event. Together they ran two activities, moderated a panel debate organised by the European Commission and presented OBESSU in a stand which was open to everyone during the whole event.

In the stand we presented our current work. Our main focuses prior to and during the EYE were:

• The campaign tackling social inclusion in education called “Education, we have a problem!” which was also closed during the event.
• Our work towards the European Parliament elections
• Our stances regarding Education in Crisis

We did not only present our work, but also engaged with the participants in various activities in the Parliament, in some big tents and at our stand.

In the stand, we asked participants to take part in a petition, we asked them what does education mean to them and we tried to find out how much do they pay for their education. You can read more about this in separate articles on our website.

We would like to thank the European Parliament and the European Youth Forum for hosting and organising the event and for giving an opportunity to so many young people to share their ideas for a better Europe and for a better future! We also thank for the opportunity that we, youth organisations, were given to present our work and organise workshops and debates, and we hope that this was not the last time for something like this to happen!
