OBESSU at the European Youth Forum General Assembly

The European Youth Forum General Assembly was held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania at the end of November. (This is, by the way, hopefully the same place where OBESSU will have next year’s Convention) The discussions included the report of action for the last years in the form of the Progress Report of 2013-2014, the finances of the platform, policy documents on mobility and youth work and, very important for OBESSU, the Work Plan for the years 2015-2016. After many discussions, the Work Plan now includes a more holistic approach to education than what was originally proposed. We hope that OBESSU’s fruitful cooperation with the Euorpean Youth Forum in the field of education can continue.

The discussions on these topics were done through discussions in policy corners and voting on amendments.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the visit of the new Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, making his first public appearance as the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport. Based on the discussion and questions seems to be that he wants to be the Commissioner for the young people of Europe but what remains to be seen is whether he will be the best possible Commissioner also for the learners of Europe. On Saturday it was time for elections. OBESSU congratulates the new President Johanna Nyman, the two Vice Presidents and the rest of the new Board. Especially exciting this day was the election of Dejan Bojanić, a former Board member of OBESSU, to the Board for the years 2015-2016.

OBESSU will continue to be a very active member of the European Youth Forum and we are looking forward to keep up our work within this important platform during the upcoming years.
