OBESSU Conference: Art and Sport as Catalysts for Social Inclusion
Following the GA, from 21 till 25 May 2012, OBESSU also organised a Conference on the topic “Art and Sport as Catalysts for Social Inclusion” in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference gathered around 50 school student activists from all over Europe. Together they discussed in which way sport, art and creativity, both within as outside of schools, can contribute to better intercultural dialogue and social inclusion, overcoming differences, promoting acceptance of diversity and fostering equality among young people. Find the pictures on .The Art and Sport Conference turned out to be a success: We gained knowledge and exchanged experiences; we made friends and spent great time with each other. Hreidar Mar, former OBESSU Board Member, concludes “For the past four days we had the pretty extraordinary task to explore the dimensions of Art and Sport as a way to catalyss social inclusion. I think we have done an excellent job: we did a lot of physical workshops – both aimed at looking at the many dimensions of sport and physical activities, but also by doing drama exercices and team work. We learned how we as facilitators and organisers can help involve people in our activities to promote social inclusion. So I’m very happy about how everything went here and I’m extremely proud of our participants. I can’t wait to see how the outcomes will be and how people will be able to use this for further development of the topic.”
Many warm thanks go out to everyone who contributed to the success of the project, with special thanks to Pedro from the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA), Tom and Chloe, our inspiring Theatre workshop facilitators, the preparatory and support team, OBESSUS’s old and new Board and Secretariat and last but not least our enthusiastic and creative participants. Thank you all for making this an unforgettable experience!
