OBESSU MC meets in Brussels!
On the 18th and 19th of April the entire Monitoring Committee (former OBESSU Board member Nora Kleibel from AKS, Sasa Pesic from UNSS and Elsa Lengeler from USO) met in Brussels to have its annual meeting.
The Monitoring Committee (MC) is the monitoring and advisory body of OBESSU. It oversees the work of the Board and Secretariat, as well as the different Working Groups. The main aim of this committee is to check that the work done is in line with all important political documents that OBESSU has, such as the Political Platform, the Development Strategy and theWorkplan. Furthermore, the MC monitors the finances of OBESSU.
On the agenda therefore was an audit of OBESSU’s books, a precise evaluation of the work of the all OBESSU organs – in particular the OBESSU Board – as well as interviews with the individual Board members and the Secretary General. To start of the massive to-do-list, the MC brainstormed and decided on the criteria that were later used to evaluate all the work done by the various parts of OBESSU. These included the satisfaction of Member Organisations; the outreach and inclusion of the different events and activities of OBESSU with regards to the Development Strategy, Workplan and Political Platform (a more ‘legal’ aspect); as well as the impact of these activities.
Later the same day, Secretary General Rasmus Åberg joined the MC to explain the book-keeping system of OBESSU to them and answer questions that they had about this. After this, he left them to actually go through the books – which they did until the late hours of the evening. The second day of the meeting consisted of Board interviews, the actual evaluation of work done by the Board as well as deciding on the structure and content of the report to the General Assembly.
On the whole, the MC is very pleased with the meeting and is looking forward to presenting its report to the General Assembly in June!
