OBESSU welcomes the Nobel Peace Prize to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi
On the 10th of October, it was announced that the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi “for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education”.
OBESSU would like to congratulate both winners for this well-deserved recognition of their work. The right to education and the social agency of children and young people are absolutely fundamental cornerstones of society and the struggle of the two winners reminds us all that these are rights not to be taken for granted.
OBESSU welcomes the Nobel Committee’s recognition, in awarding this prize, that education is key to social cohesion, peace and prosperity. We hope that this year’s prize will lead to greater recognition for the key role of school student activism in fighting for universal access to quality education.
