OBESSU Statement – Protect Students’ Rights to Assemble and to Protest

OBESSU stands in solidarity with students around the world using their freedom of expression and right to peacefully protest in support of liberation and against the ongoing Genocide in Gaza and across Palestine. We are deeply concerned with the violence of state forces being called to intervene by education institutions to try to diminish the rights, values and demands of students.

We likewise are concerned with the antisemitic, Islamophobic and racist rhetoric of people attempting to repress these students in the fight for global justice. Historically, the student movement has always stood up when our global leaders have failed us. We commend the unity, determination and strength of these encampments across the world.

We call on national and international leaders to condemn the violence against students, and to use their platform to reinforce their rights to assemble and protest. Furthermore, we reaffirm our unwavering support for the student movement mobilising for justice, peace and against imperialism.
