What is the “Study Session SexEd IQ - Inclusive and quality sex education - What can school students do?” about?
OBESSU stressed, in its internal Work Plan 2018-2020 and Implementation Plan for 2019, its commitment to focus on Education for Wellbeing, which also entails education on sex and gender. Inclusive and quality sex education has been on the agenda of the organisation to be explored for some time.

OBESSU has run a joint study session with IGLYO in 2014 on standing up against bullying in education, especially of LGBTQI students but there is no ongoing internal process on related topics currently. The Board of OBESSU believes this is the right moment to bring it in, given the current political context of many European countries. This is also an opportunity to deepen our understanding of advocacy and non-formal learning in connection to sex education.

Ensuring that sex education is conducted not only in an inclusive, but also a quality manner, lays foundation of a peaceful, informed and tolerant society. Based on this and the experience and strategic discussions conducted in OBESSU and its member organisations, the study session will serve as a base for involving school students in the shaping and execution of inclusive and quality sex education in their educational institutions.

Aim and Objectives:

The aim of this Study Session is to explore how school student unions can contribute to having inclusive and quality sex education in their schools, both as part of the curricula and as in non-formal and informal learning.

The call:

OBESSU is looking for 1 or 2 participants from each Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisation. The Study Session is a great opportunity to start being involved in OBESSU international activities, so we strongly encourage young participants with less experience to apply.

The dates:

The Study Session SexEd IQ - Inclusive and quality sex education “What can school students do?” will take place in Budapest from the 31st of March 2019 to the 6th of April 2019 (travel days included).

Deadline for applications: 27 th of January 2019, 23:59.
