It’s the time of the year where School Student activists from all over Europe come together to shape our platform. The statutory meetings - Council of Members and Extraordinary General Assembly - took place in Rome, Italy, from the 17th to the 18th of November.

Hosted by our Italian Member Organisations, Rete degli Studenti Medi (RSM) and Unione degli Studenti (UdS), twenty eight organisations came together to discuss our Political Platform, Statutes, 2019 European Parliament Elections, the 17th of November and finally the OBESSU Board elections.

We opened the Council of Members remembering those executed on 17th of November 1939: Jaroslav Klíma, Jan Weinert, Josef Adamec, Prof. Josef Matoušek, Jan Černý, Marek Frauwirth, Bedřich Koula, Václav Šafránek and František Skorkovský. We remembered all the protests and actions held since in the name of student and youth rights.

Soon after, we closed our 5 weeks long campaign #MindOurEducation with a photo shoot and video that is now online on our Facebook page!

One of the highlights of this year’s COMEM is our new Member Organisation from the United Kingdom! We’re happy to welcome the National Society of Apprentices (NSoA) as a full member of OBESSU. If you want to learn more about our new member, check this out!

We also welcomed Türkiye Öğrenci Senatosu (TÖS) from Turkey as Affiliate members.

As you may know, the Board of OBESSU usually consists of 5 people. During the last General Assembly in July, only 2 people out of 3 positions were elected to the Board, making the Board of 4. This meant that we had to have an Extraordinary General assembly, and that is exactly what we did!

Mid-way through Sunday, we opened our ExtGA where we discussed our Statutes and had  our Board elections. No candidate was elected for the Board, and that means that Sara, Edvardas, Rob and Giuseppe will continue to work as a Board of 4 until the next General Assembly, to be held in the upcoming summer. Nonetheless, we wish to thank the candidates who stood forward for the election.

A huge thank you goes out to our amazing chairperson, Nora Kleibel, former OBESSU Board Member (2012-2014) and Monitoring Committee member (2014-2016). Nora chaired both our COMEM and ExtGA and we thank her for carrying it out perfectly.

Last, but not least, we want to thank all the Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations of our network for making Statutory Meetings so interesting and engaging for the entire platform. Democratic processes are at the core of our work, and this would not be possible without you!
