On the 22nd and 23rd June 2019, Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations of OBESSU met in Madrid, Spain, for the annual General Assembly. Hosted by our Spanish organisation Confederación Estatal de Asociaciones de Estudiantes CANAE, 38 participants from 26 organisations came together to discuss the current state of the platform and its future developments. Here are the highlights of the event!
On the first day of the GA, the Board, MC, SG and WG presented lots of reports and answered questions from the Membership.
Another important point on the agenda was the vote of trust to the Secretary General. The General Assembly approved the Board’s decision to continue having Giuseppina Tucci to coordinate the work of the Secretariat for two years.
Member organisations discussed amendments to the Political Platform. Some of them were adopted. You will be able to read the modified version of the Political Platform on our website very soon!
On the second day, five policy papers were proposed on different topics: the Environment, Mental Health in Schools, Refugee and Migrant Education, Guidelines on Global Citizenship Education, and the Concept of Consent. They were all approved with absolute majority and will be used by OBESSU as bases for its advocacy work.
MOs also discussed and voted amendments on the Statutes which regulate the organisation. An updated version of the document will be available soon.
Then, it was election time! We are very happy to say that our Membership elected 3 new Board Members! Bicca Olin (FSS, Finland), Lucija Karnelutti (DOS, Slovenia) and Adrian Barbaros (CNE, Romania) will work along with Edvardas and Giuseppe. Congratulations to them!
Our Membership also elected 3 new Monitoring Committee members: Yasmin Malli (USO, Switzerland), Joanna Siewierska (ISSU, Ireland) and Sara Þöll (former Board Member). We thank the outgoing MC members, Jane, Giacomo and Larissa for their hard work and wish them the best!
The General Assembly ended with a tender moment! Presents, laughs and some tears for our outgoing Board Members, Rob and Sara. Thank you very much for your hard work and commitment to school students rights.
We take this opportunity to thank all the representatives who took part in the General Assembly for their active participation and high-quality debates. We would also like to thank our hosts from CANAE who were very helpful and kind.
