On 25th September OBESSU participated in the annual General Assembly of the Lifelong Learning Platform. The LLLP is an organisation gathering together civil society organisations working on education at European level, from cradle to grave. Members of the LLLP include student organisations, higher education institutions, parents, early childhood organisations, youth and volunteering organisations and much more, encompassing the formal, non formal and informal sectors of education.
OBESSU engages with the LLLP in many ways, from participating to Working Groups (for example the one on digital learning), to participating in consultations, joint advocacy (like the Erasmus+ coalition) and we also engage in the Steering Committee. We also often participate with activities in the Lifelong Learning week, as we did in 2019 when we organised a panel with Members of the European Parliament, Education International and our own members to discuss student participation in a shrinking civic space.
The work of such a platform is fundamental for OBESSU and for policy makers: together we bring a stronger and unified voice to institutions and we advocate for a accessible, quality and inclusive Lifelong Learning. During the General Assembly, in fact, we participated with the other members to shaping the new Advocacy Strategy of the organisation, discussed its Work Plan for the future and exchanged with the European Commission on topics like the Digital Education Action Plan, the European Education Area and much more.
Last, but not least, during the General Assembly we voted on a new Steering Committee and a new President. As OBESSU we would like to congratulate and thank the outgoing steering committee members and the president. We also are very proud to announce that our Secretary General Giuseppina, who has been on the Steering Committee of the LLLP already for the last mandate, has been re-elected for a 3-year mandate within the Steering Committee. We would also like to congratulate Arja from the European Parents’ Association for being elected as president, and Monica, Jon and Martina for joining the Steering Committee.
