Recently the Board had its first meeting of 2017 in sunny Madrid (Spain), from 21st to 23rd of January. With a big load of enthusiasm and new ideas, the team kicked off the new year in style. Read here about the five highlights of the Board Meeting!

Stronger communication with MOO. The Monthly OBESSU Overview (or MOO) will provide everything our International Officers want to know to be fully updated on what is going on at European and international level on matters related to school student activism. The Board came up with a new communication strategy focused on policy and advocacy, spiced up with news on various European opportunities for our Members, internal OBESSU news and more. The first MOO will be sent out very soon!

Work Plan under construction. Having analysed the inputs given by Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations during the Council of Members (COMEM) in Dublin, the Board took some further steps to create a new Work Plan for 2018-2020. Very soon there will be a first draft that will go out to the membership for consultation. Focusing on both new trends and current topics in Europe as well as on OBESSU experience and expertise, we can say that the content looks very promising!

CANAE on top speed. In the framework of the Seeds for Integration project we also visited our friends from CANAE to see how their seeds-projects are running. Both the regional initiatives and the national activity are going very well! We valued their dissemination efforts and it was nice to see how it worked out on the field. Besides, it was the perfect opportunity to meet the president of our Spanish Member Organisation, Carles. The whole Board was very impressed with their current work on the topic of bullying and their ongoing youth participation school programme. We are very delighted to have such active member organisations!

Seeds for Integration growing stronger. We took a first look back on the ambitious Seeds for Integration project and we are very satisfied. Eleven initiatives on the topic of refugee and migrant education from Spain to Estonia are currently being run with our support. Now the second call is finishing and it seems that a lot of our Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations took the opportunity and applied to implement their own activities. Find all the information on the website!

New Political Ambitions. The work on the policy paper on School Methods 2020 is ongoing and also a new policy paper on the topic of Migrant and Refugee education is in the pipeline. The Student Welfare Research is coming to an end and we can be proud of this work as it will give us strong evidence for our advocacy work. Those policy papers are also an important part of our new advocacy strategy. Exciting times ahead!

This and much more was discussed profoundly in Madrid, giving the whole team a lot of confidence to go full speed with these initiatives in the coming year. Stay tuned on our website, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook page to follow all these fresh ideas and initiatives!

The meeting was hosted in the offices of the Spanish Youth Council – CJE. Thank you so much for providing us with great working space, a warm welcoming, and coffee!
