Say What?

After a lovely winter holiday OBESSU is kicking off the next focus within the campaign “Education, we have a problem!”; a focus on immigration, language minorities and religion! The main aim of the next month is to look at immigration in Europe and how the education systems are prepared for it. Many school students are forced to speak and study in a language which is not their first and this can lead to exclusion. School students with immigrant background and school students coming from minorities are judged and excluded from the education system and society. We live in a global multicultural world, and Europe is no exception. Continual movement is something we need to take into the consideration when shaping the education and society itself. We have to stop seeing a changing world, immigration and the rights of minorities as problems or issues and instead discover the great benefits and opportunities which are often overlooked. We must also take into consideration the religious minorities living in European countries and give young people the opportunity to study and grow in the spiritual way they wish to. Also this has to be reflected in the educational systems. The situation of many school students nowadays is not easy and it is much more difficult when there are no efforts made to include everyone. It is the responsibility of the education system to adapt for the student’s needs and not the responsibility of the student. Right to education is a basic human right for everyone regardless the cultural, linguistic or religious background. No school student should sit in a classroom and feel the need to repeatedly ask the question “say what?”. Prepare yourself for some interesting articles, partners contributions and more!
