Seminar on nonviolent behavior in schools in Croatia
The Croatian association of high school students has organised a three-day seminar on nonviolent behavior in schools.
On 14th June the association of high school students organised a three day meeting of high school students from the Vukovarsko-Srijemska County in the Hotle Dunav in Ilok, with the representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ombudsperson for Children as a part of an EU-funded project called “Equality and tolerance against violence”. Another EU funded project, “The national youth initiative” is also part of this event.
The goal of the national youth initiative is to involve high school students in creating a community which promotes tolerance and prevents violence amongst adolescents. All the activities were created by young people and they are adapted for groups of twenty participants. To overcome the cultural differences, the participants had dialogues, lectures, discussions and performances where they talked about the most common causes of school violence, solving school violence and the effects of violent behavior in the community.
The association organised this event with a goal of starting a constructive conversation that would result in ideas for projects promoting tolerance. As a part of the event the association had prepared several educational presentations and performances for the twenty participants from seven county high schools.

As a part of the seminar the Croatian association of high school students presented a book called “DoživljaVANJA” that captures a struggle of one high school girl called Vanja. The book speaks about tolerance, nonviolent behaviour and dialog amongst high school students. The Association will fund the printing of one copy of the book “DoživljaVANJA” for every school library in the county.
