VSK thanks its volunteers!

On Friday, the 20th of April, the Vlaamse Scholierenkoepel (VSK) decided to say a big Thank You to volunteers all over Flanders.“Our year theme at VSK is Volunteers“, says 17-year-old VSK chairman Elio De Bolle. “Not only the school students in the school student councils, but also all of the school students who want to make school a more pleasant place, must be thanked.”

The Minister of Education and Elio gave the kickoff of ‘Thank You Volunteer’ (Merci Vrijwilliger) during a training-day for school student councils from all over Flanders. This day is organized annually by VSK. The minister asked everyone to nominate their best volunteers in school as to show them what they mean for the schools.

As from February schools could nominate projects at their school through a website. From all the nominations,  over 200 volunteers were chosen by a jury of youth. These volunteers put their efforts this year in projects like an anti-bullying group, a sports project, the school student council, an environmental working group, the school play or Oxfam sales.

A square in Antwerp was arranged with a ‘pamper terrace’, a stage for dj’s  and several other activities. The afternoon ended with a ‘cruise’ on the Flandriaboat, with dj’s and pampering activities on board.
