Working Group on Vocational Education and Training
In 2012 and 2013 OBESSU had a Working Group (WG) on Vocational Education and Training (VET). The WG did several different things, most important of which was the organisation of the Claim your Voice campaign. In this campaign, OBESSU raised awareness of the topic and promoted OBESSU’s opinion on the topic: that VET should be seen as a respectable alternative to academic education and that students following a VET path should also be represented and organised in school student unions.
Now it is time to start working again. According to the OBESSU Workplan (2015-2017), “The Working Group will work on matters concerning Vocational Education and Training (VET) and act as a monitoring organ of European policies on VET. Furthermore the Working Group will also try to raise awareness for VET-related topics among OBESSU members.”
Following this Workplan, earlier this year OBESSU opened up a call for new WG members and now the new WG has been formed. It consists of the following members:

- Kevin Michael (SvB)
- Rebecca Olin (FSS)
- Blaz Plazar (DOS)
- Agnesa Qerimi (KYC)
OBESSU was happy to see that so many participants and organisations were interested in the topic and would like to thank all applicants. Apart from those mentioned above, the Board member in charge is Laufey and the Secretariat contact person is Rasmus.
The mandate of the group lasts until the end of 2017, but given this longer-than-usual mandate it will be possible for individual members to join or leave the group before that.
As you can see in the quote from the Workplan above, it is at this point somewhat vague exactly what the group will do. Much of this will be decided by the group itself. Next year the WG will organise a VET-related event at the European Youth Event (EYE) in Strasbourg, where about 5000 other young people will be present.
