Working together to combat Early School Leaving!
On the 31st of March OBESSU took part in the Stakeholder Meeting on Early Childhood Education and Care as well as Early School Leaving by the European Commission.
The meeting was comprised of various important stakeholders at the European level, such as the teachers’ trade union (ETUCE). João Delgado, Head of the Unit on School education welcomed the participants to the meeting and gave an update on recent developments in European cooperation in the field of school education. He highlighted the more regular meetings of the Directors-General for Schools, organised now more regularly, the set-up of a new Commission Working Group on School policy and the launch of the new programme ERASMUS+, stressing the increasing importance of cooperation with stakeholders.
Annalissa Cannoni from the DG Education and Culture of the European Commission gave an overview of the work of the Thematic Working Group on Early School Leaving which OBESSU has been a part of as the school student representative for the past two years. The participants of the meeting were then also asked for further feedback on the report of the Working Group.
OBESSU pointed out once more that in order to reduce Early School Leaving, the learners’ support has to be understood in a broad sense, including emotional and psychological support and in general ensuring an inclusive school environment.
